Through the use of the 7 deadly sins, the contemporary problems and issues of being a teenager in Britain are represented. By doing some research, we have discovered that each sin fits into a category of concern within the UK.
Lust: Lust is represented in Britain by the underage sex that occurs.
“One-quarter of girls have underage sex but fewer than one-third go to family planning clinics to get advice on contraception or sexually transmitted diseases, says a study.” From this statistic, we realised that even in the year 2000, underage sex was a problem. The fact that lower “than one-third go to family planning clinics” shows that it is purely not love, but lust, one of the deadly sins. The statistic that stood out to us most was, “Four out of 10 girls in England have underage sex - more than in any other European country.” This disgusts us as Britain is being represented in such a bad way in the media. We wanted to portray this bad image of Britain through-out our trailer. This has been done by the “alley-way scene”, the “bed scene” and also the results of ‘Luke’s’ STI test. His death is then shown in sexual terms, in relation to 'Bondage' and with the use of a belt.

Envy: The issue of jealousy and wanting to have attributes of other people (especially celebrities) is a big problem in Britain. "The average age of onset bulimia is 18-19 years" Not only does this statistic shock us, it also gave us the opportunity to use one of our teenage characters to perform the act of bulimia. Her death is then shown by her stomach being cut.
Gluttony: Gluttony is described as the excess consumption of food or drink. This has been shown by one of our female characters (Grace) who is continuously eating bisuits, and consuming drink and alcohol. Binge drinking is one of Britain's major problems and as teenagers grow up in an alcoholic and obsessive culture they are psychologically persuaded and swayed into drinking for fun and becoming inebriated (drunk). "11 million Brits binge drink, but two thirds of them (67 percent) insist their diet is healthy and four in ten (42 percent) believe their drinking has no effect whatsoever on their health." This percentage is very high, and because of the fact that people do not see any harm that this is doing to their bodies they continue to binge which makes the problem worse.
Wrath:Wrath is described as fierce anger. This is shown in our film as one of the characters shows racist angry behaviour which is a key 'sin' in Britian, this is because some british people do not like the fact of non nationalists coming to Britian and this causes anger. There is also the fact of immagration, as this is becoming popular causing outrages.
Sloth:Sloth is represented in Britain through the lack of employment, as this is causing many Brits to stay at home and laze around; this is also shown in our film as the character sara is shown in bed. There is also the problem of benefits increasing to people living in Britain as above showed that many people are out of work, due to the reccesion, so they have no choice to get benefits to help them survive, this also shows a sense of 'slothness' as people could try to find work and not rely on the goverment. This also has affected teenagers "Number of teenagers not in work or school rises to 10.3%" This just shows how the percentage keeps rising and how it is affecting everyone of all ages.
Pride: pride is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of self. This is reflected on Britain as the country as fought wars for it, the amount of patriotism within it is so strong that one word-pride, can some up Britian.
Greed: Greed is the excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of money, wealth and power. Britian shows this clearly by the people who live there are always wanting more, always wanting more than what they have and will go to any measures to do so, for example; Britians got talent, for some, clearly not, some people enter just for 'fame and fortune' and will do anything to get more! There is also the fact that Britian are always wanting more money for its country.
